Abstract
GARIZOAIN, Gonzalo et al. Análisis de preservación ósea y dentaria en dos grupos etarios: su importancia en el estudio de conjuntos esqueléticos. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2016, vol.17, n.3, pp.327-339. ISSN 1850-373X.
In the present study, results from preservation of human bone remains analysis of adults and subadults individuals from the Lambre Collection coming from the La Plata's Cementery, are shown. Knowing the representativity, fragmentation, completeness and deterioration of the bone and dental elements are key variables in bioanthropological studies, since it's study allows to visualize possible bias in the samples. Condition and composition of skeletal assemblages must be analyzed taking into account the relationship between intrinsic and extrinsic factors that affects its preservation. For preservation analyses, the following dimensions were taken into account: dental and bone representation, degree of fragmentation and bone destruction. For this, five indexes were estimated: the Bone Representation Index (IRO), the Dental Representation Index (IRD), the Bone Fragmentation Index (IFO), the Anatomical Completeness Index (ICA) and the Cortical Bone Presence Index (IPC). The results showed significant preservation differences between adults and subadults, having IRO, IFO, ICA and IPC higher values in adults. This would be explained by differences in the characteristics of the skeletal tissues in different stages of development.
