Abstract
GLUZMAN, Geraldine A. Una tecnología olvidada: cerámicas metalúrgicas en el Noroeste argentino prehispánico: Una revisión desde la arqueometalurgia. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2017, vol.18, n.1, pp.19-30. ISSN 1850-373X.
There is a little known group of pottery in the archaeological record of Northwestern Argentina, relatively uncommon in relation to domestic and ceremonial ceramics. This group -the metallurgical ceramics- was essential in metalworking. The most common recurrent types of these ceramics from the area are crucibles, molds, and an intermediate type, possibly used in the dissemination of the metal from the former type to the latter. In this paper, the ceramic vessels are linked to metal production. Their main morphological and functional characteristics are outlined, their spatial distribution in the area is delineated, and the results of laboratory studies are presented. The latter have provided valuable information that reveals some of the technological properties involved that made possible several requirements for their effective performance. These requirements involved the intervention of craftspeople skilled in the behavior of materials at high temperatures.
