Abstract
INIESTA, M. Lourdes and ROJAS, Facundo. Modelo de distribución potencial de locaciones arqueológicas para el periodo Tardío (1200-1500 DC) en el valle de Guandacol (oeste de la provincia de La Rioja). Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2017, vol.18, n.1, pp.79-89. ISSN 1850-373X.
This paper develops a model of potential distribution of archaeological locations during the late Period (c. AD 1300-1500 AD) for Guandacol Valley (western La Rioja Province) based on the relationship between settlements and significant environmental variables that indicate the presence of settlements, such as native forests, precipitation, soil, altimetry and rivers. The model was developed with maximum entropy software (Maxent). This methodology provides an improved approach to settlement patterns, and can assess which variables of the physical environment, and to what degree, were prioritized by the population for their habitat. It also facilitates the selection of zones for prospecting and increases the probability of finding occupation areas, particularly in locations with geomorphological and anthropic conditions affecting the preservation of the cultural record. The variables found to contribute the most in our analysis were seasonal temperature, proximity to the carob forest, location on the valley bottom, and precipitation during the wettest month.
