Abstract

Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2017, vol.18, n.2, pp.181-195. ISSN 1850-373X.

The results of the study of the ceramic material from the Late Regional Developments Period (ca. 1200-1470 AD) occupation of Tambería de Guandacol site, Felipe Varela Department, La Rioja Province, are presented. On the basis of the concept of pottery production sequence, in which potters’ choices, ideas, and teaching/learning practices converge, the production sequence of the Sanagasta/Angualasto ceramic style is diagrammed on the basis of the recorded evidence. Complimentary conventional examinations (macroscopic and submacroscopic) and archaeometric analysis (ceramic petrography, X-Ray Diffraction and X-Ray Fluorescence) of pottery and potential raw materials suitable for the sampled production in the area were carried out. It was concluded that a local ceramic manufacturing tradition existed with relatively homogeneous technical characteristics transmitted by habitual instructional norms, included regional links, and was framed by a production context of economic and demographic growth.

Keywords : Pottery production sequence; Tambería of Guandacol; Late Regional Developments.
