The stress and health status of colonial populations from Mendoza Province, Argentina, are assessed through the study of dental enamel hypoplasia of linear type (HEDL). A sample of 38 adults and sub-adults of both sexes recovered from San Francisco Ruins and La Caridad, colonial temples located in the Foundational Area, were studied. The prevalence of individuals with HEDL and NMEDC was evaluated, taking into account age, sex, socioeconomic status, and chronology. The results indicate that 57.89% of individuals present lesions attributable to systemic stress and that children, young adults, and low status individuals are the most affected. The results are discussed in relation to mortality profile, paleopathological evidence, and historical information. This research contributes to the characterization of the health status of the population in general and especially of those social sectors with fewer resources or historically less visible, such as infants and children.
