Abstract
SCHEINSOHN, Vivian et al. Prácticas funerarias en el valle del Genoa (Chubut, Argentina) en el Holoceno tardío final. Un abordaje del sitio Cueva de Plaza a partir de múltiples líneas de evidencias. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.1, pp.21-35. ISSN 1850-373X. http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.37176/iea.23.1.2022.655.
Archaeological research developed at Cueva de Plaza site enabled the identification of the first indigenous funerary context dated to the historical period for the Genoa Valley, Chubut Province, Argentina. The results of the taphonomic, bioarchaeological, and paleopathological analysis of the human samples and associated cultural materials are presented. The action of diverse agents in the cave generated the displacement and commingling of archaeological materials. Two radiocarbon dates and the presence of Venetian-type glass beads made it possible to determine that at least some of the funerary activities took place between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The characteristics of this context are discussed within the framework of contemporary mortuary practices among central-western Patagonia hunter-gatherers.
