Abstract

DE FEO, María Eugenia; DOMINGORENA, Lucas Pereyra  and  BAZZANO, María Alejandra. La alfarería de Muro Ancho: producción y circulación durante el Formativo inferior en Quebrada del Toro (Salta, Argentina). Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.1, pp.37-50. This paper presents the results of the stylistic and petrographic analysis of a ceramic sample recovered at the Muro Ancho site, Incahuasi, Quebrada del Toro, Salta, estimated to belong to the Early Formative Period (700 BC - 400 AD). The analyzed sample can be ascribed morpho-iconographically to the ceramic types described for the period and the area. Six technical means of manufacturing pottery were identified at the site, which are also observed at other settlements in the Quebrada. Such regularities support the existence of a local ceramic tradition characterized by the use of slate, phyllite, sandstone and grog as tempering agent. In contrast, pieces were recorded whose morphology, plastic resources, or petrography resemble others found in the San Francisco complex. Based on this evidence, the circulation of pieces and styles and the interaction between both areas during the period are discussed.
