Abstract

GARIZOAIN, Gonzalo; PLISCHUK, Marcos; SALCEDA, Susana Alicia  and  GARCIA, Marcela Nilda. Formación de dentina secundaria como indicador etario: análisis de medidas lineales y superficiales en dentición permanente de restos óseos humanos de una colección documentada contemporánea. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2022, vol.23, suppl.1, pp.11-22. ISSN 1850-373X.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.37176/iea.23.especial1.2022.693.

Secondary dentine formation is a process that occurs gradually and steadily after the completion of tooth development, causing the pulp cavity to shrink over time. Its importance for forensic practice lies in the possibility of estimating age from the analysis of linear measurements (mainly) of the pulp and root from radiographs. The present work aims to compare and analyse the correlation between the age of individuals and the linear and superficial measurements of tooth and pulp. Fifty-one upper canines and 73 lower canines belonging to 84 adult individuals from the Lambre collection (FCM-UNLP) were selected. The corresponding ratios were collected and calculated from the set of linear and surface measurements of pulp and tooth. Considering the wear factor, it was proposed to calculate a new ratio known as APR (pulp-radicular area) obtained from surface measurements of the pulp cavity and root dentine (SP/SR). The results obtained showed that the surface measurements correlate best with age, and of these, the APR was the one that showed the best correlation with age.

Keywords : Secondary dentine; Chronological age; Linear measurement; Superficial measurement.
