Abstract
FUERTES, Juana; LOPEZ, María Laura; WYNVELDT, Federico and IUCCI, María Emilia. Prácticas de preparación y consumo de frutos de Prosopis spp. en un evento ritual. Un caso de estudio en el poblado arqueológico El Molino (depto. de Belén, Catamarca). Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.2, pp.227-242. The results of the analysis of charred macroremains of Prosopis spp. recovered from structure 34 of El Molino site, Valle de Hualfín, where a human burial was located are presented. Seventy archaeological remains of pods, endocarps and seeds of the genus Prosopis (Leguminoseae) were studied and determined to be cf. Prosopis spp., Prosopis spp., P. flexuosa, P. chilensis, P. cf. flexuosa and P. cf. chilensis. Of these, 82.8% (n=58) presented evidence of possible associated post-harvest practices, 15.7% (n=11) could not be associated with any particular practice due to their degree of fragmentation, and 1.4% (n=1) showed no processing traits. Most of the study sample showed evidence of the use of water for the final processing of preparations that include hydration, similar to aloja and añapa. A small percentage possibly came from the elaboration of flour, which could have been used for immediate use or for making beverages. The existence of products derived from the processing and preparation of foods and beverages based on algarrobo fruit is suggestive of the role that these preparations and their residues had in the social framework that shaped the landscape of this region in the past.
