Abstract

ARAQUE RIVADENEIRA, Jorge V  and  HIDALGO, Fernando L. Non-compaction Cardiomyopathy: Two Case Reports and Update. Rev. argent. cardiol. [online]. 2010, vol.78, n.2, pp.147-150. ISSN 1850-3748.

This disease is generally referred to as non-compaction of the left ventricular myocardium or isolated left ventricular non-compaction. It has been recently described as a primary genetic cardiomyopathy. Although it was previously considered a rare disorder, this diagnosis currently is more frequent. Non-compaction of the ventricular myocardium represents an arrest in the normal process of myocardial compaction in the embryo that occurs more frequently in men. We report two cases of non-compaction cardiomyopathy diagnosed at the Hospital Eugenio Espejo in Quito, Ecuador, and perform an updated review of the disease.

Keywords : Left Ventricle; Cardiomyopathy; Embryology; Myocardium.
