In Brazil, textbooks are one of the most used resources in the teaching-learning process in basic education, and are therefore fundamental for the construction of students' knowledge. According to Brazilian educational guidelines and regulations, especially in the teaching of science and biology, it is necessary that the contents covered in these books present the local reality, providing readers with knowledge about the environment in which they live and interact. Therefore, the present work investigated how the textbooks most commonly used by public schools in the city of Uruguaiana-RS, address the Pampa biome, a place where schools are inserted. For this, a matrix was elaborated, constituted by categories, that aim to analyze the approach of all Brazilian biomes, which received scores, as well as the book itself. It was observed that in all textbooks analyzed, the biomes approach occurs in a summarized way. The Pampa was the least discussed biome in all the books, including occurrences of erroneous and outdated information. The data indicate that the books do not present the same form of approach for these important Brazilian ecosystems and due to the books being used throughout the national territory, we emphasize the need to update the textbooks to subsidize a more adequate and contextualized teaching practice.
