Abstract

HOCSMAN, Salomón  and  ASCHERO, Carlos. Characterization of typological groups of gouges, carvers and chisels. Comechingonia [online]. 2015, vol.19, n.2, pp.281-296. ISSN 1851-0027.

In this paper, typological groups of gouges, carvers and chisels are presented. These groups are added to the typological list whose framework is the "Ensayo para una clasificación morfológica de artefactos líticos" (Aschero 1975, 1983). With this aim, it is carried out a morpho-functional characterization of each addressed typological group following the criteria developed for this purpose. Also, discrimination among themselves and with certain flaked stone tools that can lead to an incorrect classification is presented. Finally, some considerations on the typological groups and instrumental performance characteristics are carried out.

Keywords : Typology; Flaked stone tools; Modes of action; Performances; Gestures.
