Abstract

MORALES, Natalia. Analysis of the bone surface modification in faunal remains of the southern sector from the área ecotonal húmedo-seca Pampeana: San martín 1 Site as a case study. Comechingonia [online]. 2015, vol.19, n.2, pp.323-345. ISSN 1851-0027.

The main objective of this work is to provide knowledge regarding the handling of animal resources by hunter-gatherer groups who inhabited the area. A secondary goal is to provide information about the natural agents that would be intervening in the shaping of the archaeological record of the area by assessing their contribution to the formation processes of San Martin 1 site. This article describes the methodology used and the results obtained from the analysis of bone surface modifications identified in the faunal remains recovered from San Martín 1 archaeological site, Puan, Province of Buenos Aires. The site is located on the left bank of Chasicó stream, in the south of the Area Ecotonal Húmedo Seca Pampeana. Some analysis allowed the identification of anthropic marks in four different animal species, where guanaco was the only one that was fully represented in the site. Additionally, the effects of roots, rodents and carnivores on the faunal remains was also recorded.

Keywords : Faunal resources; Hunter-gatherers; Resource utilization; Taphonomy.
