Abstract
DI PRADO, Violeta. PROPOSAL FOR THE MACROSCOPIC ANALYSIS OF THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL CERAMICS: AN APPROACH FROM THE CENTER-EAST OF ARGENTINA. Comechingonia [online]. 2017, vol.21, n.1, pp.1-10. ISSN 1851-0027.
Archaeological pottery presents particular characteristics in each region of Argentina, mainly related to the abundance and preservation of samples; technological, decorative and morphological variability; contextual information associated; among other features. Regional differences, together with various academic and institutional constraints, have also led to a differential development of methodological papers, most of which are based on sets of argentinian Northwest. Although these contributions can be applied to samples from other regions of the country, generally a process of adequacy to local records is necessary. Recently, have been published methodological contributions based on ceramic records from other regions (e.g. Cuyo, Mesopotamia, Pampa, Patagonia). At this scenario, this paper seeks to: provide an overview of available publications to study ceramics and a stage for selecting strategies according to the sample and the research problem; discuss the attributes usually registered at the macroscopic level to infer different aspects of the manufacturing process as a first step in making a guide analysis and highlight the importance of using appropriate categories and analytical units as a fundamental step in any research design.
Keywords : pottery, methodological strategies, attributes and analytical units, derived inferences.
