Abstract

BRACCO, Diego. CHANÁES: ACCULTURATION AND CONTINUITY.. Comechingonia [online]. 2017, vol.21, n.2, pp.1-10. ISSN 1851-0027.

The primary goal of this article is to offer reflections in relation to changes and continuity among the chanáes. To accomplish this goal, it focuses on the final part of the 17th and the early part of the 18th centuries, primarily using unedited documentation. The current article extends beyond this time period by including consideration of a document from 1749, in order to discuss what appears to be long-term relationships with the charrúa. Aspects of the process of acculturation related to navigation, work for colonial society and religious syncretism are highlighted.

Keywords : indigenous, Río de la Plata, transformations, charrúas.
