Abstract
DE FEO, María Eugenia and PLISCHUK, Marcos. EVIDENCE OF INTERPERSONAL VIOLENCE DURING THE LATE FORMATIVE IN QUEBRADA DEL TORO (SALTA, ARGENTINA). Comechingonia [online]. 2023, vol.27, n.1, pp.31-40. ISSN 1851-0027.
This paper presents the results of the bioarchaeological study and the burial context of an adult male individual (L2), found at Tres Cruces I site, estimated to have lived during the second half of the first millennium AD. From an osteobiographical approach, which emphasizes the pathologies observed and the social environment, it aims at knowing some aspects of his life trajectory and discuss some aspects related to the use of the body, care, and the causes of death and violence in the past. The most relevant injuries were two traumas, a direct fracture by depression without penetration in the left parietal bone and a direct trauma by perforation including a projectile point in the 4th lumbar vertebra. according to the characteristics of both lesions, they were classified as pre and perimortem, respectively. We conclude that individual L2 was exposed to repeated episodes of interpersonal violence; however, the information available to date does not allow us to suggest with confidence the existence of a generalized situation of intergroup conflict or intragroup social tension.
