Abstract
PALLO, María Cecilia; CIRIGLIANO, Natalia Andrea; LOPEZ, Lisandro Guillermo and MATERA, Sebastián. ARQUEOLOGÍA DE CAZADORES-RECOLECTORES EN TAPI AIKE (PATAGONIA MERIDIONAL, ARGENTINA): UNA APROXIMACIÓN AL USO DEL ESPACIO DESDE ELREGISTRO LÍTICO DE SUPERFICIE. Comechingonia [online]. 2023, vol.27, n.3, pp.13-13. ISSN 1851-0027.
In this paper, we present a distributional study on the surface lithic assemblages from a baseline environmental study carried out in the Tapi Aike region (province of Santa Cruz, Argentina). The reconstruction of spatial units of analysis with different ecological properties and on which lithic artifacts are deposited, allowed us to make a regional comparison in terms of artifact density and distribution of artifacts and finding classes. Our results show that occupational intensity increases from west to east and that there are important variations in the use of technology between geoforms (moraines and glacial landforms, structural plains covered with gravel, and alluvial plains, fluvial and terraces and valleys) and environments (mata negra matorral thicket, dry magellanicgrass steppe and humid magellanic grass steppe), which suggests a different and complementary use of spaces on a broad time scale, from the Pleistocene-Holocene transition to late Holocene. The differential land use patterns is probably linked with the most important ecological variations in the study area, which seem to have been a main factor in human decision-making on mobility and settlement in the past.
