Abstract
ATTORRESI, Horacio F.; GARCIA DIAZ, Alcira M. and PRALONG, Héctor O.. Identification of random situations in university students. Anu. investig. [online]. 2006, vol.13. ISSN 1851-1686.
In this research we are introducing an exploratory study administered to two hundred and eighteen students being admitted to university, who were selected be accessibility, to look into the capacity of recognition of random phenomena. Three items in which random was expressed through variety of content were designed: one associated to thought, another connected to a ludic situation and a third one connected to the weather. A study of the first level of categorization told the difference between the recognition of random situations from those situations without this specific recognition and a second level classified the different arguments studied both "for" as well as "for not" recognition. Multiple comparisons of proportions and comparisons in pairs of answers were made. The predominance of different lines of normative or chaotic argumentations according to the context of the presentations stands out. The independence of the recognition of randomness was tested in different contexts and the contents were compared in pairs. Independence was found in two out of three possible comparisons. These two results are compatible with another research work carried out on both adults and university students where it is claimed that context exerts an influence in the recognition of random, and it also verifies a clear lack of conception about this last notion.
