Abstract The research presented aims to explore children's conceptualizations about news production from a relational constructivist framework. Six clinical critical interviews are analyzed performed at two different times to four middle class children selected after analyzing their drawings and their discussions on the news media production process produced in the classroom. The results show that the purpose ascribed to the media guides the adoption of a more naive or more critical point of view. Those who argue naive hypotheses only conceive the informational purposes, while those who adopt a more critical point of view support the hypothesis that in the mass media the purpose of information coexists with the purpose of capture. The former, support the idea of news as a true reflection of reality while the latter think of the truth-lie dichotomy. We haven't found children conceiving the news as interpretations of the world made from a particular perspective.
