Abstract

ARNOSO MARTINEZ, Maitane et al. CONADEP Truth Commission and "Nunca Más" Report: knowledge, efficiency and associated emotions. Anu. investig. [online]. 2013, vol.20, n.1, pp.197-205. ISSN 1851-1686.

National Commission of missing people (CONADEP) and its final report Nunca Más (Never More) are the first actions led in Argentina, based on a truth's conception, in order to address past military dictatorship (1976-1983). In this frame, an empirical study was carried out to explore the level of knowledge that people have about CONADEP actions, the degree of approval/ disapproval, perceived efficacy and aroused emotions. A convenience sample was used composed by 470 participants from different Argentina. Although results show a poor knowledge about the commission's work, people exhibit high positive evaluations of commission actions recognizing it contributions in responsible persecution, helping victims' relatives, avoiding the repetition of such events and building an integrative story. Differences are also observed when comparing participant's opinions in function of their political-ideological positioning.

Keywords : Truth commission; Knowledge; Efficiency; Emotions.
