Abstract

INTERLANDI, A. Carolina  and  CARRERAS, M. Alejandra. Self-assessed health in school children of buenos aires city: pilot study as a first step in the cultural adaptation of an instrument to be evaluated. Anu. investig. [online]. 2013, vol.20, n.1, pp.321-329. ISSN 1851-1686.

The final goal of the present study is to make a conceptual, linguistic, and metrical adaptation of a psychometric instrument, the Healthy Pathways Child-Report Scales (Bevans, Riley & Forrest, 2010) conceived to evaluate the self-assessed health of children and early teenagers. The aim of this particular work is to expose the results obtained during the first instances of the cultural validation process with a sample of school subjects between ages of 8 and 14 (Mean=11 years old; SD=2) of Buenos Aires city. The first stage was the translation (English to Spanish) of the test questions, which was done by two Technical-Scientific English translators whose mother tongue is Spanish. The second stage consisted of a cognitive interview of 30 children and teenagers to evaluate the grammatical and conceptual comprehension of the items of the test. At the same time, it was evaluated whether the recall period asked, as well as the number of scales, was the correct one taking into account the characteristics of the local subjects. Results suggest that it is necessary to redefine the chronological age from which the content of the items, the temporal notions and the number of questions included in the test can be understood.
