Abstract
BARTOLOME, Miguel A.. Los laberintos de la identidad: procesos identitarios en las poblaciones indígenas. Avá [online]. 2006, n.9, pp.28-48. ISSN 1851-1694.
This essay concerns the topic of ethnic identities understanding them as ideological constructions derived from the contrast between cultural and socially diferentiated groups. These identities can not be understood separate from the state and interethnic contexts in which they were developed. I propose a brief presentation of some of the most important theory perspectives emphasising that in reality, they are not as exclusive as they pretend to be, instead, I think that combined, they contribute to the development of a general identity theory. Focusing in the conceptual precision that our social sciences need, I propose to diferentiate the ethnic identities from another identifications and social conditions that commonly are categorized together. I conclude exposing the distinct indegenous identity conceptions; the ones that emerge from their own simbolic codes to demostrate each group's singularity and the ones oriented to show the ethnic diferentiation with the outside world.
