Abstract
MANZANO, Virginia. Formación de dirigentes, jerarquía y disciplina en organizaciones de desocupados del Gran Buenos Aires: un enfoque antropológico de los movimientos sociales. Avá [online]. 2006, n.9, pp.77-92. ISSN 1851-1694.
This article analyzes the problem of discipline and hierarchy within the unemployed people's movement in the Greater Buenos Aires Area. From an anthropological perspective on social movements, we contend that the process of leadership formation aims at selecting and promoting a group of men and women whose mission would be to articulate the framework of meanings and political and ideological purposes within the organizations to which they belong as well as to divulgate them at the local, national, and international levels. Nonetheless, this formative process becomes a mechanism of discipline and, therefore, one of the effects of the disciplinary techniques would be the individualization and hierarchization of certain behaviors. To support our argument, we draw on data from our field research with two unemployed people's organizations in La Matanza district that we developed between 2001 and 2004.
