Abstract

CARPINETTI, Bruno. La Política del “Perro del Hortelano: Caza Furtiva y Especies Exóticas en Bahía Samborombón. Avá [online]. 2014, n.24, pp.00-00. ISSN 1851-1694.

Contemporary conservationists point out the introduction of alien species as the second leading cause of species extinction after habitat loss. Also, poaching has been characterized as the cause of the decline or extinction of many animal populations. Protected areas created in the Bahía Samborombón área prohibit hunting permanently. This prohibition, may have favored the growth of exotic species populations established in the area. In this paper the information of 156 fines made by provincial police and park rangers between 1999 and 2011 were analyzed. This information was contrasted with the exotic species and control and monitoring of protected areas management policy applied in the area. Actions were suggested to avoid inconsistencies in management policies and reduce conflict with local population.

Keywords : Bahía Samborombón; Poaching; Protected Areas; Alien Species.
