Abstract

DI BELLO, Mariana Eva  and  VACCAREZZA, Leonardo S. Census information for decision making in public housing policy. Cienc. docencia tecnol. [online]. 2011, n.42, pp.171-203. ISSN 1851-1716.

In public policies, different hierarchical levels in decision making and the various public intervention strategies generate different uses and meanings regarding the use of statistical and census information. We found, according to government bodies, a meaning of political negotiation, a rhetorical use to legitimize actions, and a technical and professional use as the basis of the territorial organization of "knowledge" to plan and make decisions. In this paper we present qualitative results of a study on the use of statistical information in public agencies. This is an exploratory case study, therefore it, does not "represent" typical situations. In contrast, the analysis is oriented to the production of concepts that allow a better understanding of the subject.

Keywords : Sociology; Use of census information; Housing policy.
