Abstract
LALLANA, Víctor Hugo and DI PERSIA, Juan Francisco. Caracterización morfométrica de semillas de cuatro especies de orquídeas terrestres nativas de Argentina. Cienc. docencia tecnol. [online]. 2018, n.57, pp.272-284. ISSN 1851-1716.
The orchid seeds, although produced in abundance, are very small and extremely light. The objective of the present work was to morphometrically characterize the seeds of four species of terrestrial orchids, Cyclopogon elatus (Sw.) Schltr; Bipinnula pennicillata (Rchb. f.) Sisternas & Salazar; Chloraea membranacea Lindl. and Chloraea philippii Rchb. f. The measurements of the seed and the embryo were made on the digital microphotographs. For the calculation of the volume of the seeds and the embryo, geometric formulas were used. The seeds presented, in general, a taper to a slightly tapered shape, both elongated and truncated, with colors from dark brown to yellow and their volumes varied between 0.01 mm3 (C. philippii) and 0.001 mm3 (C. elatus). The structure of the testa is reticulated for all species, except for C. elatus, which is striated. C. philippii was the one that presented the highest percentage of air (85.72 %), while C. membranacea, the lowest (42.61 %).
