Abstract

The article focuses in the goals with which students of engineering confronted the learning in the moment to entrance university and five years later. Relationships of the academics goals with the achievement or delay in the course of the career are analyzed; 48 engineering students from National university of Rio Cuarto participated in the study. They were contacted five years after their entry. The 48 students answered a questionnaire administered personally. The results showed that in students with achievement trajectories prevail since the entrance university goals associated with learning. In contrast, in those students who after five years of university studies had not yet passed 50 % of the career, goals such as save self-esteem and avoiding failure prevailed, associated with the adoption of unfavorable behaviors for learning.
