Abstract

PEREZ TRENTO, Nicolás. Las transformaciones globales en la producción de semillas y su impacto en el conflicto por el uso propio en Argentina. Cienc. docencia tecnol. [online]. 2019, n.59, pp.236-264. ISSN 1851-1716.

In this paper we aim to analyze some of the transformations in the production of soybeans linked to the conflict unleashed in Argentina over the appropriation of seed saving royalties. More specifically, we will present the differentiation of the capitals that take part in the production of these seeds after the consolidation of biotechnologies and their application in the agricultural branch. This consolidation, in turn, deepened some trends that had previous expressions, such as the increase in private investment in the development of new varieties and the centralization of capital. This triggered a series of conflicts in relation to seed saving, since farmers can reproduce soybeans preserving their genetic base, which led to the emergence of new ways of appropriating profits by capital, on the basis of limiting or preventing seed saving.

Keywords : Biotechnology; GM seeds; Seed saving; Royalties.
