Abstract

BATTISTON, Dora. El género pastoril: de Teócrito a la bucólica cristiana. La poesía de Paulino de Nola. Circe clás. mod. [online]. 2007, n.11, pp.57-72. ISSN 1851-1724.

From the historical-literary analysis of the so called pastoral genre and considering some theoretical aspects referring to its form in the Classical Antiquity we derive towards the textual construction of the first Christianity and to the transformation of the Christian Bucolic. In Paulinus of Nola´s works, where biblical elements are mixed together with pastoral and Arcadian themes, the figure of the shepherd becomes the "shepherd of souls" exactly like Christ. More than its didactic aspect, this poetry expresses attachment to the form and cultivation of the literary image.

Keywords : pastoral genre; Theocritus; Vergil; Christian bucolic; Paulinus of Nola.
