This article attempts to demonstrate the need of including environmental education in the curriculum of higher tourism courses. Through the bibliographic research it is intended to show the way in which environmental education can help to train professionals and citizens capable of responding to the urgent need for a better balance between man and the environment that surrounds it, as well as the need to improve relationships between individuals and their collaboration in order to build a new society. It is intended to demonstrate that the inclusion of environmental education in the curriculum of higher tourism courses would allow an interdisciplinary and systemic view of the world and society, in order to generate a change of awareness about the responsibility of men towards the environment.
