Abstract

In the current world context with a global tourism, a cheaper transport, a massive use of Internet, a more experienced tourists and with more need of personalized products the tourist destinations look for new offers in order to satisfy the increasing demand. One of them is the industrial tourism based on the recognition of the value of the industrial heritage of a territory for tourist use. The main aim of this paper is to explain the spatial evolution of this type of tourism during the last thirty years (1980-2010) in Catalonia, one of the most industrialized Spanish autonomous communities, comparing it with the urban development proposed in the model of Friedmann and a series of external sources of statistical information, be confirming that both follow a territorial similar evolution, which can serve in the future for other investigations and to apply this model in the politics of development of this tourism in other destinations with an industrial tourism less developed
