This non-experimental, structured, cross-sectional research seeks to provide an overview of the teaching of laws and regulations that affect the library profession, taking as an example the library science career at the Universidad de Buenos Aires. The research approach is mixed: quantitative (graduate surveys) and qualitative (interviews with different professionals) methods were combined. It contains a brief review of the laws involved and provides advice for their inclusion in the degree study plans. Most graduate librarians do not have sufficient knowledge of the laws related to their profession. How can a librarian promote free access to information and defend exceptions for libraries without solid rationale for the topic and tools to achieve it?
