Abstract
COSTILLA, Diego D. et al. Description and registration of the new sugarcane variety, TUC 95-10, produced by the Estación Experimental Agroindustrial Obispo Colombres. Rev. ind. agric. Tucumán [online]. 2017, vol.94, n.1, pp.55-58. ISSN 1851-3018.
Argentina´s seeds and phytogenetic creations Act -N° 20.247/73- promotes efficient seeds production and trade by ensuring quality and identity of seeds in the market and by protecting intellectual property rights of breeders. In 1991, was created the Instituto Nacional de Semillas (Inase) (National Seeds Institute), it enabled the creation of both, the Registro Nacional de Cultivares (RNC) (National Cultivars Register) to monitor trade, and the Registro Nacional de Propiedad de los Cultivares (RNPC) (National Cultivar Property Register) to protect intellectual rights of breeders. This paper describes procedures followed by Estación Experimental Agroindustrial Obispo Colombres (EEAOC) to register the new sugarcane variety TUC 95-10 with the RNC and, subsequently, with RNPC, both under the authority of Inase. Throughout 2010, 54 morphological descriptors of this new variety were evaluated, among which nine are of compulsory nature: leaf sheath adherence, internode diameter and shape, internode color exposed to sun and not exposed to sun, stem zigzag alignment, bud shape excluding wings, color of leaf sheath collar and leaf blade width. At least, six stems were assessed for qualitative descriptions and more than 24 stems from different stools were used for quantitative assessments. This material was selected from 10 to 12-month-old plant cane plantations (first growth cycle). These representative samples were obtained from the EEAOC collection of varieties, from Las Talitas, Tucumán. Recorded data was sent to Inase, according to its requirements.
