Abstract
COSTILLA, Diego D.; CHAVANNE, Ernesto R.; GARCIA, María B. and CUENYA, María I.. Botanical description of TUC 00-19 sugarcane variety and their inscription in the Registro Nacional de Propiedad de Cultivares (R. Argentina). Rev. ind. agric. Tucumán [online]. 2018, vol.95, n.2, pp.45-48. ISSN 1851-3018.
Registering varieties in the Registro Nacional de Propiedad de Cultivares of Argentina (RNPC) serves the purpose of protecting creators and discoverers' property rights over new plant varieties. The inclusion in this catalog also implies the registration of varieties in the Registro Nacional de Cultivares (RNC), which enables their marketing. Both registers are kept by the Instituto Nacional de Semillas (Inase), an organization that sets standards for the registration of varieties in the Catálogo Nacional de Cultivares. One of the requirements for registering varieties is the evaluation of their distinctness, uniformity and stability (DHE), according to guidelines set by the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV). This DHE evaluation determines the distinctive characteristics of each variety, by assessing 54 qualitative and quantitative botanical characters in plants from 10 to 12 months of development in a first crop cycle ("plant cane"). Qualitative characteristics are observed in six samples, or parts of samples, and quantitative characters are analyzed in 24 samples, or parts of samples, all of which come from different stools. This work aims to evaluate DHE of TUC 00-19, variety produced by the Sugarcane Breeding Program of Estación Experimental Agoindustrial Obispo Colombres (EEAOC) that was listed in the Registro Nacional de Propiedad de Cultivares of Argentina.
