Abstract
GIMENEZ, A. M.; HERNANDEZ, P.; GEREZ, R. and SPAGARINO, C.. Palo Santo (Bulnesia sarmientoi Lorentz ex Griseb Zigofilaceae) Wood anatomy and Tree Rings. Quebracho (Santiago del Estero) [online]. 2007, n.14, pp.23-35. ISSN 0328-0543.
The objectives of the work were to characterize wood anatomy and the growth ring pattern, to analyse evolution of tree rings in relation to age and to determine the main defects of round wood of Bulnesia sarmientoi Lorentz ex- Griseb. (palo santo), Zygophyllaceae. Samples were collected in the Locality Extension Lot 27, G. Bazan, Formosa, and Miramar; Bermejito, in Chaco, Argentina. Twelve trees were selected at random, obtaining one section of the trunk to 0,3 m. In the wood descriptions used terminology of IAWA Committee of Nomenclature. In addition one worked in 100 trees of rounded wood. Bulnesia sarmientoi is a wood with high evolution, with complete stratification, dendritic porosity. Vessels are numerous, small and medium pores, axial parenchyma in bands, homogeneous rays; with complete stratification. Tree rings are small 2.077 mm (1.18-3.27); sapwood thickness 8 (7-14 rings), being the most frequent defects of rounded wood: basal ribs and wood eccentricity (25%).
