Abstract

One of the principal goals of the university is the generation of scientific and technological knowledge and thus to ensure high-quality educational outcomes. The objective of this article is to compare the actual situation of the research activities of the Faculty of Forest Science of the National University of Santiago del Estero in the national context during period between 1998-2006 The results shows that the indicators and parameters studied are similar to those obtained at National level in the Strategic National Plan of Science Technology and Innovation. As positive aspects is important to mention that, there is an increase of number of doctorates. There are strong research teams working continuously during several years in different aspects of the Chaqueña Region. There is an adequate coordination between the national and Provincial Programs of Science and the Scientific System of the Forestry Faculty. There are detected vacancy areas such as: territorial planning forest products commercialization, non-wood products, there is also a lack of an interdisciplinary insight of the projects in order to prevent the isolation and atomization of the researcher teams. Comparative analysis is the first stage and it will allow to adequate any research policy that the Faculty try to asses at future.
