Abstract

This paper calculated the productivity for each of the manual tasks performed in order to produce young seedlings as well as the wages required for producing 30,000 per year of the mat the nursery of the Fernandez Experimental Station, devoted to the commercial sale of algarrobo blanco (Prosopis alba). The effective times and the non-productive times determined with chronometer were studied. The efficiency index, the effective productivity and the actual productivity on the substratum preparation, seed preparation, seeding, maintenance and load of young seedlings phases were determined. Those with the best indices of performance were presented to the substratum milling, seed scarification and seedling classification stages. Container filling, seed sieving and seeding exhibited normal indices. Seeds milling, digging and plants loading are the operations presented significant non-productive times that have an effect of the entire process. In accordance with these present indices, it was estimated that this nursery demands the hiring of  69.24 direct labor wages for the desired production volume of 30,000 young seedlings per year.
