Abstract

BARONE, J.; DUARTE, E.  and  LUNA, C.. Determination of the effectiveness of methods for evaluating seed quality in native forest species in the Atlantic Forest. Quebracho (Santiago del Estero) [online]. 2016, vol.24, n.2, pp.70-71. ISSN 0328-0543.

Several methods for the determination of viability of Myrocarpusfrondosus and Cedrelafissilis seeds were evaluated; the methodologies used in this study were: individual electrical conductivity test, topographical tetrazolium test, indigo carmine and ferric chloride tests, separation of the embryo, colorimetric pH test of exudates and standardized germination tests. While the study was done using two kinds of seeds, a recalcitrant seed and an orthodox seed, it can be concluded that even though it is necessary to specify the details of the implementation protocol, it was determined that the electrical conductivity test and the separation of the embryo were the best methods for analyzing Cedrelafissilis, a specie with orthodox behaviour, while the indigo carmine and ferric chloride tests were the most appropriate for Myrocarpus frondosus, which has a recalcitrant behaviour.
