Abstract

LUDUENA, M. E.; CARDOZO, R. de J.  and  CARRANZA, M. E.. Using transportable metal furnaces for carbonization: the “carbotambor”. Quebracho (Santiago del Estero) [online]. 2020, vol.28, n.2, pp.100-111. ISSN 0328-0543.

This work is a contribution to the knowledge on charcoal made out of a mixture of species native to the Chaco Park handmade in a Transportable Metal Furnace referred to as the “carbotambor”; it also embodies an enriching exchange experience between University and Rural Primary School settings. The methodology of this work consists of constructing the furnace, processing the wood, obtaining charcoal, and determining the quality and calorific value of the product obtained. The results obtained show that due to its commercial yield (32,56 %), energetic efficiency (39,26 %), volatile content, fixed carbon, cost, production and innovative character, the use of the Transportable Metal Furnace is suitable for the production of charcoal oriented to the local domestic market.

Keywords : transportable metal furnaces; “carbotambor”; quality; calorific value.
