Abstract

MITJANS MORENO, C. B.; PACHECO ESCOBAR, J.; DOMINGOS, E. dos A. A.  and  RAFAEL, N. V.. Structure, floristic composition and diversity of woody flora of the Miombo forest of Munhiba, Mocuba district, Mozambique. Quebracho (Santiago del Estero) [online]. 2020, vol.28, n.2, pp.112-122. ISSN 0328-0543.

This research work was conducted in the Munhiba woody forest area located in the Zambezia County, Mozambique. Its objective was to evaluate the structure and composition patterns of the Mombo woody forest from the abundance, frequency, dominance and ecological importance index of the species found. There were identified 18 families and 49 species (being Fabaceae that with higher diversity). Out of them, 94 % is apophytic and 6 % fit into the antropophytic category. Among the species with higher ecological level of importance, the following were found: Sterculia quinqueloba, Brachystegia boehmii, Diplorhynchus condylocarpon, Pteleopsis myrtifolia, Cordyla Africana, Lanneas chweinfurthii, Strychnus spinosa, and Terminalia sericea. It is concluded that despite the degradation shown by the tree flora, there exists evidence of a high percentage of apophytic species that can be used to their own restauration.

Keywords : abundance; frequency; dominance; ecological importance index; synantropic.
