Abstract

Annual deforestation in Peru has increased at a rapid rate and the behavior of native forest species for repopulation is unknown. The objective of this work was to evaluate the behavior of six native forest species in the Samaniato Experimental Center, in the Department of Cusco. The experiment was carried out under a Completely Random Blocks experimental design with six treatments (species) and three repetitions, being T1: glandulose colubrin (shaina); T2: Cedrela odorata (cedar); T3 Schizolobium amazonicum (red pashaco); T4: Copaifera officinalis (copaiba); T5: Parkia sp (tarun tarun) and T6: Swietenia macrophylla (mahogany). The parameters evaluated were total height (HT), ground level diameter (DARs), survival percentage, and Average Annual Increase (IMA) for both height and DARs. An analysis of variance and multiple Tukey´s comparisons were performed and then processed using the 2018p InfoStat statistical software. The results showed significant differences for total height and ground level diameter, being the highest percentages those of Schizolobium amazonicum and Colubrina glandulosa. As to the survival percentage, the highest values occurred for Schizolobium amazonicum (71 %), Parkia sp. (62 %) and Colubrina glandulosa (60 %). The highest IMA for height were for Schizolobium amazonicum (4.20 m) and Colubrina glandusa (2.93 m) and IMA DARs Schizolobium amazonicum (6.03 cm) and Colubrina glandusa (3.0 cm). Both Schizolobium amazonicum and Colubrina glandusa showed good initial behavior concerning adaptation and rapid growth.
