Abstract

ROVELLI, Laura Inés. University expansion and academic mobility: areers of university researches in Buenos Aires metropolitan area. Rev. Pilquen. secc. cienc. soc. [online]. 2012, n.15, pp.00-00. ISSN 1851-3123.

This paper examines the processes of mobility of academic researchers from more traditional universities in the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires to the national universities of Quilmes, General Sarmiento y General San Martín. To follow this purpose, we explore, on the one hand, certain historical dynamics that academic mobility took in the Argentine higher education system, while we analyze the policies and the specific university configurations that encouraged the professional movements studied. In addition, we inquire into the academic careers of researchers located in the past two decades in one of the three universities mentioned, in order to study various factors of expulsion from the universities of origin as well as those of attraction to new institutional settings. The central argument states that in the last two decades there is a change in the careers of young academic researchers in the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires, characterized by a process of inter-institutional mobility, associated mainly to the possibility of upward mobility and professional recognition. In turn, the mobility studied follows the fluctuation of public and institutional policies, enabling the formation of a stable market of academic positions for university researchers.
