Abstract

RUIZ JABBAZ, Soledad. Gossip and social ties in a popular neighborhood in Santiago of Chile. Rev. Pilquen. secc. cienc. soc. [online]. 2012, n.15, pp.00-00. ISSN 1851-3123.

In the last decades, Chilean popular neighborhoods research has been mainly focused in their resident's delinquent and criminal potentiality, and in their segregation from a zoning point of view. This article pretends to contribute to the study of practices and ways of life in those neighborhoods. Starting from an ethnographic research, the author makes a reflection about three aspects of everyday life that are related with the practice of gossiping, that show the relations and social ties among inhabitants of a quarter placed in the south side of Santiago de Chile.

Keywords : Gossiping; Popular Neighborhood; Relations and Social Ties; Santiago de Chile.
