Abstract

ADROGUE, Cecilia  and  ORLICKI, María Eugenia. Factores relacionados al consumo de frutas y verduras en base a la Encuesta Nacional de Factores de Riesgo en Argentina: Factors related to the consumption of fruits and vegetables based on the National Survey of Risk Factors in Argentina. Rev. Pilquen. secc. cienc. soc. [online]. 2019, vol.22, n.3, pp.70-82. ISSN 1851-3123.

In the last thirty years the obesity rate in Argentina has doubled, both among adults and among young people and children, currently affecting about 30% of women and 27% of men. Undoubtedly, this phenomenon is linked to the type of ingested food and people´s lifestyle. Fruits and vegetables are presented as the main suppliers of vitamins, minerals, fibers and other necessary elements for the functioning of the organism, the growth and development of the physical and intellectual capacities of the individual. This paper analyzes the factors associated with the consumption of fruits and vegetables, in order to identify risk groups. Using Microdata from the National Survey of Risk Factors developed by the National Ministry of Health and INDEC, through a multivariable regression it is verified that the low frequency in the consumption of fruits and vegetables is associated with other risky behaviors for the health such as low physical activity, for both men and women, and obesity and alcohol dependence -in the case of men-, while age, income and education are positively associated with the frequency of consumption for both, men and women.

Keywords : Servings of fruits and vegetables; Associated factors; Argentina.
