Abstract
MAAS, Cecilia. Argentina and Great Britain in the 1920's decade: the Prince of Wales' visit, the British needs and the economic thought of the argentine élites. Ciclos hist. econ. soc. [online]. 2017, vol.28, n.48, pp.1-20. ISSN 1851-3735.
This paper aims to analyze the meaning of the visit of the Prince of Wales to Argentina in 1925, in the context of the relations between this country and Great Britain in the 1920s. According to our premise, there were common interests between the British and some sectors of the Argentinean elites who, even though Great Britain was losing its dominant role in the world, insisted on prioritizing this relationship over the other alternatives of a different international integration. We examine the ideas and debates about the Argentinean economy and the British interests that surrounded the visit of the Prince in order to evaluate if this visit can be considered a part of the strategies that were developed to legitimize the relations between Argentina and Great Britain, laying the ground work for future bilateral agreements.
