Abstract

ALBANI, Benedetta  and  GAUNE, Rafael. De Christo revelato and De temporibus novissimis by José Acosta: travels, printed works and political mediation in Rome (16th century). Mem. am. [online]. 2023, vol.31, n.2, pp.94-107.  Epub Nov 20, 2023. ISSN 1851-3751.  http://dx.doi.org/10.34096/mace.v31i2.12814.

Based on the publication in Rome in 1590 of the books De Christo revelato and De temporibus novissimis by the Spanish Jesuit José de Acosta, we analyse the Roman horizons of these texts and their links with America through the Jesuit's travels from the Iberian Peninsula and the political mediation carried out in the Roman courts. The aim of the article is to analyse these important books not only for their millenarian or biblical contents, but also to link them to their political conditions, the context of production and the writings and practices of the Jesuit Acosta in Rome.

Keywords : José de Acosta; Rome; De Christo revelato; De temporibus novissimis.
