Abstract
VEGA, José D. and SUIREZS, Teresa M.. Density of Cedar (Cedrela fissilis Vell.) AND Rabo Ita (Lonchocarpus leucanthus Burk.) in Relation to Ring Widt Hand Porosity. Rev. cienc. tecnol. [online]. 2009, n.11, pp.47-54. ISSN 1851-7587.
This work studied the density of cedar (Cedrela fissilis Vell) and rabo itá (Lonchocarpus leucanthus Burk.) wood in relation to rings growth width and type of porosity. The identification of the porosity and classification of the woods, rings measurement and physical tests were carried out. The process consisted of forming groups which were divided into: 1 and 3 (low density) and 2 and 4 (high density). The number of test tubes was of 50 for species. The porosity of cedar wood was semicircular and that of rabo itá was diffuse. The average width of cedar growth rings was of 4.71 mm and of rabo itá was of 3.70 mm. The normal densities of cedar and rabo itá were 0.49 and 0.74 gr/cm3 respectively. The wider the cedar`s growth rings, the higher the wood's specific apparent weight, while the wider the rabo itá`s growth rings were, density decreased.
