Abstract

QUIROGA, Marina; LEZCANO, María Teresa  and  MARTIN TALAVERA, Bibiana. Aeromonas spp. involucradas en infecciones extraintestinales diagnosticadas en centros de salud de posadas, MisionesAeromonas spp. involved in extraintestinal infections diagnosed in health centers of posadas, Misiones. Rev. cienc. tecnol. [online]. 2009, n.12, pp.27-33. ISSN 1851-7587.

We studied 21 Aeromonas strains involved in extraintestinal infections diagnosed in health centers of Posadas in the period 2002-2006. A 90.5 % of the isolations were coming from skin, wounds and bone infections. The average age of the patients was 53 years old, with predominance of males. The susceptibility to different antimicrobial agents was determined. Hydrolysis on ß-lactams and the presence of ß-lactameses were investigated by the iodometric method on agar and by phenotypic methods, respectively. All of the strains showed hydrolytic activity in front of two or more ß-lactams. By phenotypic methods, the production of inducible ß-lactamases was detected but no ßLEE and metallo-ß-lactamases were detected. Our results support the hypotheses that it would be possible that the resistance acquired in Aeromonas spp. is associated to the use of antimicrobial agents and mediated by enzymatic mechanisms and selective pressure caused by excess of prescriptions.
