Abstract

CORACH, Julián; SORICHETTI, Patricio A  and  ROMANO, Silvia D. Propiedades eléctricas de metilésteres obtenidos de aceites vegetales entre 20Hz y 2MHz: Electrical properties of FAME obtained from vegetable oils from 20Hz to 2MHz. Rev. cienc. tecnol. [online]. 2014, n.21, pp.47-52. ISSN 1851-7587.

Electrical properties measurements have been successfully applied in previous works to characterize mixtures of fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) obtained from soybean oil. In this work, it is shown that these techniques may be applied to FAME samples from other feedstocks. This generalization is relevant in industrial applications, as well as in laboratory measurements, quality control and "on line" production systems. Permittivity and conductivity dependences on temperature were determined between 303 K and 343 K in the frequency range 20 Hz to 2 MHz in FAME samples from sunflower, corn, grapeseed, chia, canola, jatropha, coconut and cottonseed oils. In all the samples analyzed permittivity decreases linearly with temperature, and an exponential (Arrhenius) function fits well the conductivity data, with activation energies between 0,20 eV and 0,25 eV.

Keywords : Permittivity; Conductivity; FAME; Biodiesel; Electrical properties.
