Abstract
NUNEZ, Carlos E. Morphological study of fibers of four trees of Eucalyptus saligna implanted in Concordia, Entre Rios, Argentina. Rev. cienc. tecnol. [online]. 2014, n.22, pp.40-44. ISSN 1851-7587.
Eucalyptus saligna is native to the East and Southeast of Australia. It is included in the Symphomyrtus group together with E. grandis and E. deanei. Originally, Eucalyptus saligna was mistaken for E. grandis in Argentina .The work was done on four trees planted at INTA in Concordia, Province of Entre Rios, with discs removed at four different heights. Circular pieces have been cut and prepared to be observed under microscope by maceration and cutting sections. Fiber length, width and wall thickness were measured, and fieltrability coefficient was calculated - measuring 200 fibers or more from each sample. Results were: fiber length, 966 - 772; width, 14.4 - 13.1, and thickness, 2.7 - 2.9 - all expressed in microns-; and the fieltrability coefficient, 71 - 57. Values compared with those of Eucalyptus grandis were similar, except for fiber length which was 10% shorter and fiber width, resulting 9% thinner.
